About the 2020s
The decade of the 2020s started with ACT being dark for the entire 2020 mainstage season. While closed for the pandemic, there was a change in leadership as Anita Shah moved in as Managing Director. The first play after the pandemic closure was Hotter Than Egypt, written by Core Company member Yussef el Guindi - a world premiere.

Assassins (2016)
Welcome to the carnival, where everybody has the right to be happy! In this tawdry carnival’s shooting gallery, you’ll find yourself in the company of some of the most notorious figures in American history—the assassins who tried (and in some cases succeeded) to kill the president. John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, John Hinkley, and others reveal the stories of their troubled lives and deadly deeds. Created by one of the undisputed masters of musical theatre, Stephen Sondheim, this powerful work is by turns funny, dark, and haunting.

Stupid Fucking Bird (2016)
Chekhov’s story of love, art, and a hapless bird gets a remarkably contemporary face lift in Aaron Posner’s STUPID FUCKING BIRD. On the grounds of a country estate, a battle between young and old ensues in this heartbreaking, hilarious, sort-of-adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s THE SEAGULL. Winner of the 2014 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding New Play, Stupid Fucking Bird is about our longing to love and be loved.
